Hearing the words "Ma Cabane à Rêves", I imagine a childhood fort made of old sheets and pillows, with little fairy lights. A world conducive to imagination, magic, and dreams.
A few words to introduce your family…
Hello, we are team J, Jessica, John, and Joey (2 and a half years old).
A year ago, we fell in love with a house that needed complete renovation and decided to leave the city to move to the countryside. We wanted our little Joey to be able to play outside and be more in tune with nature and the seasons.
This change of life also aligned with our desire to slow down and fully enjoy our little one's childhood. We all love DIY, and now we have a great playground for it!
What is your family's biggest dream?
I feel like many families want to travel the world, but our dream is more about strengthening our family unit!
We would love to have a big house to welcome all our friends and family, and host big parties where we can all be together.
Being with the people we love is the most important thing to us.
A place you like most?
My grandmother's small home village on the Italian border, a small isolated hamlet that holds what is called the feast once a year. On the program: music, laughter, games and dancing, a convivial moment where the whole family, cousins, gather, it's truly magical.
This village, perched in the hills, is dotted with olive trees and lavender, it's a unique atmosphere that we love to find again.
Children's toys are a bit like magic objects, turning up everywhere in the house!
At Ma Cabane À Rêves, we combine play and decoration with toys that are both aesthetic and fun.
Is that a criterion you consider when choosing toys for your child?
I admit I'm particular about my son's toys; my family knows me for it ^^.
As you said, toys tend to teleport everywhere, so it seems really important to me that they can blend in with the decor and atmosphere, as everyone has to live with them after all!
I think it's important to make little ones aware of aesthetics and the "less is more" concept, with beautiful natural materials that are environmentally friendly.
Magnets that go in the bath, is that a plus for you?
We're more of a shower team here and Joey quickly made it clear that he wanted to play with the water! So I found a large metal basin for him to splash around and have fun in.
Since then, bath times have become a real little ritual and being able to use magnets to tell stories is a real bonus! You can put them on the shower tiles and it makes this moment even more awesome.
What advantages do you see in using magnets rather than stickers?
Stickers always end up tearing and need to be constantly replaced. Magnets seem like a great alternative to avoid this consumption. Plus, they can be placed in many spots without risking damage to surfaces. We've experienced the removal of stickers from our beautiful wooden coffee table, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone 😂.
Do you think the ability to juxtapose and overlap magnets is an advantage for the child? If so, why?
Yes, absolutely! It multiplies creation and allows them to truly unleash their creativity. They can combine different kits and imagine far beyond their initial use.
I am often surprised at how children are able to repurpose games to make something else!
What do you like about Ma Cabane À Rêves and why? What are the three words that come to mind to describe Ma Cabane À Rêves?
I love the idea of having magnets that are (finally!) beautiful!
It's such a flexible tool for children, creative, educational, and evolving all at once. I love the idea of combining themes and making something completely new! It's endless!
For the three words: magic, freedom, and creativity!
In an ecological move, we have redesigned our magnet packaging. It is made from 100% recycled, FSC-Recycled certified paper, and printed with vegetable-based inks. Plus, the back features an activity for children. At Ma Cabane À Rêves, we value recycling :) Are you sensitive to this type of initiative? Could it influence your purchasing decision compared to another product?
Yes, this is a real plus. The ecological aspect and the Made in France origin are among our purchasing criteria, and I would tend to choose more expensive products that value these aspects.
Where do you find your decor inspiration? Any favorite brands you'd like to share?
I leaf through decorating magazines, create Pinterest boards, and follow accounts I like on Instagram. I also don't hesitate to seek inspiration from older things, old books, vintage furniture – I love mixing contemporary elements with older objects that have a history; it often creates a beautiful resonance.
Nature also inspires me greatly, and even more so since our move, where we can live with the rhythm of the seasons. There are always natural elements in the decor: a few acorns gathered on a walk, a chestnut burr, a bouquet of wildflowers from the garden.
Some favorite decor brands: Kinetic Levi, Tré Timber Toys, Muskhane, Gabrielle Paris, Hay design, Roar studio…
