Children's career games: why also promote creative professions?
Traditional professions in children's toys
When we look at children's career games, we always notice the same pattern: firefighter, police officer, doctor. These iconic professions have been featured for generations in educational career toys and children's role-playing games. They reassure, they are socially valued, and they make children dream.
But what about creative professions? Why do we rarely see a child playing at being an architect, photographer, designer, illustrator, musician, or actor? These professions exist just as much as others, and they play an essential role: they stimulate imagination, curiosity, and the ability to invent.
Why creative professions are essential for educational play
Traditional toys highlight the most visible professions. But creative professions are also indispensable:
-
Without architects, no beautiful houses or well-designed spaces.
-
Without designers, no practical or pleasant-to-use everyday objects.
-
Without stylists, no creative or inspiring clothes.
-
Without developers or application designers, no intuitive and beautiful digital tools.
-
Without musicians, no melodies to set the rhythm of our lives.
-
Without actors, no theatre, no cinema, no embodied stories to move us.
And yet, these creative professions for children are rarely represented in toys. They are often perceived as "the last link" in the chain, as if their role were secondary. But that's wrong: they are an essential piece of the puzzle, and no one could do without them.
As a graphic designer, I myself have felt this injustice. These professions are indispensable, but too often poorly recognized... and poorly paid. To my great regret. Yet, they are everywhere around us.
Ma Cabane À Rêves collections: traditional and creative professions
In response to this observation, I decided to act with Ma Cabane À Rêves. We have created two complementary collections of educational magnetic games:
-
The Professions: a collection that highlights traditional professions, well-known to children.
-
The Creative Professions: a collection that values 12 artistic and imaginative professions, from illustrator to stylist, musician to actor.
These creative educational games allow children to imagine themselves in various roles, stimulate their imagination, and understand that every profession has its value.
Opening children's imaginations through play
By giving visibility to creative professions from childhood, we broaden children's horizons. We show them that creativity is a valuable skill, that there are a thousand ways to invent, build, and beautify the world.
With the The Professions and The Creative Professions collections, children can explore a wider universe where imagination and learning meet. Role-playing games then become a wonderful field of discovery, and every child can dream big — whether they want to be a firefighter, architect, or musician.
